Slightly encouraged that the DC appeals court says Trump is not King Immunity I. Let’s hope the Supreme Court (if they take it up as they will inevitably be asked) follows suit. No way SCOTUS gives him perpetual immunity. None. Zero. No, not even this court. If they did, Biden could do as he pleased. Any President could. They would eliminate their own power. Well if they do say the president is 100% Immune, If I were President, I could call in the military to come into the Supreme Court and remove all the justices that I didn't like, and replace them with people loyal to me, and say Screw congress, because there's nothing they can do about it because I am absolutely 100% immune...they no longer have basis to impeach me either because IMMUNITY. Hell, I can dissolve congress if I want to, I can go all President Morgan Clark on them. I can overrule state and local governments because I am immune to any criminal activity because they Supreme Court said I was immune...that I just replaced....and now I am signing executive orders...lets face it, I don't really have to do that either because I am immune to anything, so I don't answer to anybody and I can order the arrests of every billionaire in America because, I'm Immune. I am supreme ruler.....you know....because I have 100% immunity. I don't have to give up my position because even though I'm violating law...my Immunity includes the constitution too, so I can stay in power as long as Iwant. You can't stop me, I'm the President which means I'm 100% immune. wow...that gets scarier the more I think about it with my Imagination.

Haley has no chance in hell yet she continues. She's poised to lose her own home state so the question is why is she marching on? Is she counting that somehow Trump will be disqualified from running? Fat chance of that. Why else?

Haley has no chance in hell yet she continues. She's poised to lose her own home state so the question is why is she marching on? Is she counting that somehow Trump will be disqualified from running? Fat chance of that. Why else? Two reasons: - She's hanging in in the hopes of swooping in in the event that he's convicted of a felony before the convention in August. So far, the Stormy Daniels case has a decent chance of that, and many independents that lean to him and soft righties have said that they won't back him if he's actually convicted. She's hoping she's got some name recognition and avenues of support in the event of a brokered convention. And she probably would have establishment support. - She's trying to present herself as a "reasonable Republican" for 2028. The plus side is that scenario #1 has a snowball's chance in Hell of happening. The bad news for her is that her political career is doomed, now, in '28, and to the end of time. She's doomed because MAGA owns the primaries, no question. If she won a brokered convention, she goes from August to November getting absolutely torn up by the MAGAts and other conspiracy nutters. They'll stay home. Without them, she loses to Biden in a landslide. I don't think DeSantis or anyone else fares much better because, when conspiracies are all you see, everything is part of one. No matter who won a brokered convention, they will somehow become a part of the plot to remove their orange God so that they could "steal" the nomination, so they'll stay home. I don't think anyone but Trump retains the MAGAts. And the MAGAts will never forgive her for what she did to get this far, so she'll never be in real contention for anything again. But it's good that she's running just because it tears at Trump, and it shows me he's weak in a general election. He's winning by great margins, but he's not running away with it either. He's not doing the 80/20s, 90/10s that Biden is. He won SC 60/40. That means just about half of the base (which is who shows up for primaries) don't want him there. As far as I'm concerned, she should stay in as long as she wants.

Yeah she should stay in. It clearly riles up Trump on a personal level. Good.

Not sure how much legs she has now that the Koch folks have ended financial support.

Not sure how much legs she has now that the Koch folks have ended financial support. Losing money is never good, but they maintain their endorsement, which keeps lesser faucets running. She'll be able to maintain a functional campaign until at least Super Tuesday, as is her stated plan.

I wonder if she REALLY thinks that Trump's gonna drop out of the race because that's not gonna happen (I know she knows that, but I'm still wondering if she thinks there's a tiny chance still). He'd run his campaign from a jail cell if he had to, and his cult would vote for him, no questions asked.

Trump lives on a diet of fast food and he's 78. Even though Biden is a little older, I think Trump's the one more likely to become incapacitated.

Trump couldn't jog or bike to save his money.

Instantly a scene from The Fall of Colossus springs to mind, with a Trump twist. Colossus is testing various humans to learn more about them. It had a renowned art critic at on end of a large room and the Mona Lisa in the middle. It asks if the critic would give his life to save this artwork from being destroyed. Having confirmed the paining genuine, he proudly says he would. Colossus then surrounds the painting with a ring of fire that slowly closes on the work. The critic can save the work but only by literally running through fire.
I would not make Trump run through fire, but it flashed into my head: what if every cent of Trump’s money was stacked on a trap door and he had to run to the other end of a room in certain time period to press a button to stop the money falling into an incinerator below. The timer is calibrated to make the task achievable for a person with Trump’s self-proclaimed level of fitness (hello, Ronny Jackson) and Fulton County jail self-reported weight.
By the way, I suspect the money stacked on the trap door would be well short of Scrooge McDuck or Walter While lockup levels. In fact, when debts and liabilities are taken into account, I think my cat might be wealthier than Trump.

He'd run his campaign from a jail cell if he had to, and his cult would vote for him, no questions asked. I do appreciate that she's giving some moderate(?) Republicans someone else to consider. In some ways she's somewhat doing the same thing as Liz Cheney. Just not as overt. But as we see it's not working. She hasn't won any of the contests so far and simply won't win any. That 'moderate' part of the GOP is dead and this is the last breath of that ilk. Even if they don't like Trump they'll still vote for him rather than stay at home. Trump is practically the GOP presidential nominee despite everything we've seen of him. He's never gonna see the inside of a jail and I'm quite convinced he'll be president again.

Yeah there's no way Trump actually ends up in jail. If he really got convicted (which seems very unlikely as well, he's always managed to evade this sort of thing) he would flee the country and scream WITCH-HUNT again and again, and he'd STILL have his influence over the GOP. People like him don't just vanish behind bars or elsewhere.

Him serving a sentence in a federal or state facility in relation to that sentence is something else. Never gonna happen.

My quick take of the SotU...Biden hit it all well. He did everything he was supposed to do and then some. It would have been a successful address no matter who delivered it, but he did great.
And the success of it was amplified a thousand fold for the simple fact that, for the last 6 months, the GOP has set the bar for Biden at 'cadaver.' So, when he comes out there as not one, he wins, and they lose more. There was a reason the GOP ran for the exits after it was over.
And Britt's SotU response? Holy fork.

UGH! ^ This. And I can never wear me Big Red Chewing Gun hat either, because it looks too much like a MAGA hat. Not my Coca-Cola hat, nor my McDonald's hat. He's ruined all red hats. I can't shop Sharper Image anymore, I don't want people thinking I'm buying Trump Steaks.

Even when it never is, at least not over here. Doesn't matter tho. Red baseball hats and golden shoes are now unwearable. Thanks, Trump.

Last year(?) I went to a Joe Satriani concert. This is sort of niche instrumental guitar stuff. I noticed right in front was an older white guy with a red hat. I couldn't believe that in the San Francisco Bay Area someone would wear one of these so openly and boldly. To me, it's like you might as well be wearing a white hood. On the way out, I noticed he was indeed wearing a MAGA hat......Make America Guitar Again.

Just when you think that Trump can't sink any lower, he drags us to a new bottom... In my opinion one of the aspect of democratic systems that are worth fighting for is the separation of church and state, and this week gave us one of the most disturbing caricature of our current state of affairs. We should get the whole picture inside our heads: A former president and current official Republican candidate is putting out ads selling bibles with political documents and his signature!!! Guys, this is a really bad omen, we should not wave this away as the new normal. The dangers of theocracy should not be underestimated. Poor Jefferson is turning on his grave. Any Republican of intelligence and good conscience should be outrage by this antic.

That's just it. Nobody is outraged anymore by what Trump does. He has made his style of communicating and acting the new normal. That's what every cult leader does. Make outrageous things look normal and/or offer your own truth as an explanation.

He has worked hard to normalize what he does, and, while I can promise you that most people here still don't see it as normal, the overt outrage just burns itself out if it goes on long enough. It's literally Vina in "The Cage." "You can't keep it up long enough. I've tried."
