It's difficult for me to watch what passes as political debates nowadays but I watch snippets. It's probably all I can digest at a time. I saw a bit of the VP debates. Vance's performance reminds of that scene in Avatar The Last Airbender in which Toph warns Azula that she can tell when people are lying and Azula without flinching says she's a "... 400 ft tall purple platypus bear with pink horns and silver wings" and Toph couldn't tell. Without any reservation Vance says Trump saved the Affordable Care Act, doubles down on illegal Haitians in Springfield, and many other things. At least the debates were civil(thanks Trump!) but I'm clear that Vance was championing one person: himself. This appearance makes him look like a decent guy. If Republicans win he'll be there in 4 years when Trump can't(shouldn't?) run anymore. If Republicans lose he's positioning himself as a Trump successor. It was a wash, and that's all I needed it to be. No one cares much about the VP, so I doubt it changes much.

I read a quick bit about it, but, it, of course faded immediately.
But did u know Donny fake-worked at a closed McDonald's yesterday, serving pre-made stuff to Secret Service-screened Trump supporters?
That's important news.

Nothing will move the needle against him at this point.
It's all about enough turnout in the right places.

How's everyone feeling a week until elections?

How's everyone feeling a week until elections? Still feeling some dread, but, honestly, after this week with his crazytown Bund meeting and his consistent mental meltdown, I feel better about Harris winning than I have in a while. Even John Tester of Montana has closed dead heat with his carpetbagger opponent, but is pulling more R and I support than he did when he won last so, I feel like there's a bit more hope all around. Even if she wins, it only marks the beginning of the drama and a million things could happen, but I feel a touch more hopeful about things. Particularly now that, with the rally, the media seems more willing to talk about his pretty overt fascism.

Posting this here but it could go anywhere I suppose: I never received my voters' guide nor my ballot. I reported these issues to the USPS but nothing. A second ballot was sent. Never received. I reported again to the USPS. Nothing.
That's my in the liberal west coast of the San Francisco Bay Area. I wonder how many more experienced something like this but don't have the time and energy to follow up.

Well, I have voted.
Tonight is either the end of the beginning...
...or the pretty literal beginning of the end.
We'll see.

And I broke my self-imposed posting restrictions here to come and say it.
I voted too and I second Prom sentiment.

Republican's now control the presidency, the Supreme Court, the house and Senate. They can do whatever they want. Purge all Democrats from the voting lists. Ban abortions nationally, Eliminate labor laws, discrimination laws, environmental laws, support dictators around the world, attack LGBTQ rights, set up concentration camps for everyone who doesn't look like an "American" to them, allow the use of deadly force at the border, openly support Israel's genocide of the Palestinians, etc. There are no checks and balances anymore. The rule of law is dying.

Globally, this is seen as madness. In a survey this week in Australia, 88% of respondents said Kamala Harris would make the better President. 7% went for Trump. I note that abortion rights got up even in several states that voted Trump. It’s a madhouse.

The rule of law is dying. And they'll further cement the Supreme Court. I'm quite sure Thomas will retire next year or the following. There's nothing stopping the government(ie; Republicans) from posting someone ultra conservative and much younger. Same for Alito. They'll be there forever. On the other side, Sotomayor isn't exactly a spring chicken anymore. I'm sure she can last 4 years but 8 starts to stretch it. This better be a wake up call for the DNC. They've gotta start pivoting towards blue collar working men as they traditionally did. All the 'work' they did in favour of immigrants and Latinos in general went nowhere and I could have told them that. Very frustrating. But not surprising.

Sotomayor is a diabetic and, thus, at her age, has related complications. At least she won't quit while alive.
I dunno, Biden brought in a rush of manufacturing jobs, not to mention the infrastructure bill, most of them union. Half of them still voted Trump. I'm not sure what more you can do for people aside from give them well-paid jobs. But, they won't have those anymore after the CHIPS Act gets repealed. And, even if they keep their jobs, good luck affording much with tariffs, double-digit inflation and the scarcity that comes with no one around to pick their strawberries anymore.
Instead, hell, they might get the NLRB dissolved after a new SCOTUS ruling that eliminates the right to collectively bargain (with a surgical carve-out for the stormtroopers in blue)
I think a lot of it is that this is a deeply racist, misogynist country and a white man, even a felonious, rapey pig is preferable to any woman, no matter how absolutely qualified, especially a black one.
I think a Biden VP Tim Walz would have prevailed, probably by a lot.
Technically, the House has not been called, AFIK and, while not looking good, it's still possible that Dems could win based on location and demo of the race. (Believe me, I'm not pinning any sort of hope to anything. I'd consider it a miracle.)
The Onion had its headline right:
"America Defeats America."
