Just read this on The Digital Bits:"...Retail sources have just informed us that Paramount is now tentatively planning to release the Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films—Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis—on 4K Ultra HD a little sooner than we were expecting. Look for them to arrive just in time for “First Contact Day” 2023, better known as April 5th. This would be in lieu of the traditional “Star Trek Day” (aka September 8), which is when the Original Series films debuted in 4K. And obviously, as First Contact Day happens on a Wednesday next year, I would look for the specific street date to be 4/4. This date is obviously relevant to the TNG films, as the in-universe First Contact Day happens in the film Star Trek: First Contact. Moreover, it makes sense from a retail-promotional strategy as well, because the new season of Star Trek: Picard—which debuts on Paramount+ on February 16th—is essentially the eighth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. And new episodes will drop each week on Paramount+ leading up to the season (and series) finale on April 20th. So TNG fans should have much to rejoice in April."

I Hope they come with a standard Blu-ray copy as well to match the others. Actually, I wish the 4k TMP had came with the Standard Blu-ray to match others. I haven't been able to afford a 4k player or tv yet, but dang, those individual 4k boxes are pretty in my collection. I have them displayed face out.

It's actually pretty rare that they don't. The TOS films did.

I haven't upgraded to 4K either, but more because my aging old eyes simply don't warrant it. I would prefer them in BluRay as well, because all of my equipment, including my year and a half old digital projector, are all 1080p HD. That's too much equipment to upgrade for extra resolution that my eyes will barely notice.

My eyes are shot and I'm colorblind. But I do see the butchering they did with the earlier 2010 Blu-ray releases and these 4k fixes that. Also the 4k discs has the correct aspect ratio for ST:VI and the awesome Colonel West scenes, because he's gonna "Clean Their Chronometers".

Those 2010 releases were terrible - they DNRd everything to hell. Characters looked like they were carved out of moving wax in some scenes. The new remasters restore the warmth of all of the films. This time they took some real care, and it shows, on blu-ray or 4K. I just watched STVI: TUC director's edition again on 4K. I really love that movie, and for me, that version is the definitive cut. Colonel West is a small part, but so much hinges on his attitude. It underscores it and gives the movie a whole extra, believable layer. And, post-2016, it all has an extra resonance, that idea of the "enemy within," which seemed sort of quaint when the movie first came out. If they take as much care over the TNG movies, I'll be very happy. Although I do wonder how the VFX of Insurrection will look? Last time I watched (and I don't watch Insurrection very often), some of those space sequences looked really kind of basic by today's standards of CGI.

I have this feeling that if they don't at least do some basic cleanup of some kind, it's gonna look terrible.

Given how much care where into the overall clean up of the TOS crew movies, it would seem churlish not to give the TNG ones the same treatment... but does anyone care enough about Insurrection to fix glitches like that? I wonder. I guess we'll know soon.

I realize the 4K is sharper, but I'm a cheap date, so I'm good with slightly upscaled DVDs on my BluRay player.

I'd suspected that when I first saw the movie back in 1998.

It was one of the first, if not the first, to have its full fx done CGI and, well, 4K is usually not kind to early CGI, so I wouldn't be surprised if they slather DNR all over it and call it a day.

They say those special glasses fixes it for the time you wear them, but I don't see how you are supposed to know for sure if you've never seen the colors in the first place. As far as i know, there's no cure. Didn't even discover it until i kept identifying the wrong colors when I was 16. At the eye doctor, They give you a book to see numbers in patterns. 51 of the 100 pages, i didn't see the number. To me, Goku's outfit is red. Barney the Purple Dinosaur is Pink. And the dukes of Hazzard car is light Red. The monster maroon trek movie uniforms are very red. The gray TOS Enterprise in the original FX shots is white to me.

My father-in-law has similar color blindness; he sees colors, just not accurately. He's also an artist, and for a man who doesn't see colors correctly, his work is still amazing.

Not professionally, just as a hobby. I mostly sketch, but when i do paint, i only use 5 colors. Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and White. I know my color wheel so that i know what colors Im making, and i know mostly what colors things SUPPOSED to be. So i try to match the correct base color to what I actually see.

(For those who don't know John Eaves, he likes to make things "POINTY".- such as the Jem'hadar cruiser, the Son'a Ships, The Romulan Valdore, The Reman Scimitar, The Klingon Raptor.) He's Also the designer of the Discoprise.....although he designed it with straight nacelle pylons , and the FX team gave it slanted nacelle pylons I own the book "The Art of John Eaves"

Maybe not in that book - possibly in one of the many Eaglemoss ones. He's an exceptional visualist. I guess I was making the point that colour-blindness has absolutely no bearing on one's visual imagination.

I know I have Issues of Star Trek The Magazine and Star Trek Communicator with interviews with him. One of those might actually mention it and I've forgotten it. Oh, in "The Art of John Eaves" , I learned he designed the close up of the Klingon disruptor on the Klingon Bird Of Prey in Star Trek V!!!

Those are really nice. I of course will be buying the 4k+ Bluray individual ones to match my other 6 (Also, I love the original boxart ). I still don't own a 4k player XD. But at least I will be prepared, and these have better color timing anyway even on just the blurays.

I'd love to have the individual boxes, but I just can't justify the extra cost. I'll be getting the box set. Eventually, that is - I'll have to wait a little for it to come down in price. I realised this will be the first time I'll own the TNG movies on blu-ray in any format, as I never upgraded my UK special edition DVDs. So I'm looking forward to watching them in high resolution. Even the crap two. Maybe I'll watch those first.
