Ghost in the Shell is the best anime of all time, what do you think?

Fantastic movie! I cannot say I have watched many anime, but Ghost in the Shell is certainly my favorite by far. The sequel "Innocent" is also good, but not as good as Ghost.

I don't know about the best of ALL TIME, but its definitely up there in the top 5 if not 3. I think the 1994 Ghost In The Shell movie is brilliant. Sci-Fi at its truest. I haven't seen Innocence. I do have the first movie and I do have the 2003 series "Stand Alone Complex" and its sequel series "2nd Gig" on DVD and Blu-ray respectively. I really feel the 1994 movie is underrated and is way more groundbreaking in visual animation than Akira was (Yeah don't shoot me). It also as very eerie atmospheric music. As for the series, "Stand Alone Complex" and "2nd Gig" were both score by the legendary Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Brain Powered, Turn A Gundam, Macross Plus, The Vision of Escaflowne). The song "Rise" you posted is being sung in several languages throughout the song. English, Latin, Russian being a few. it belongs to "2nd Gig". Origa also did the song for "Stand Alone Complex" called "Inner Universe" which is the same way, and its really good too.

The Ghost in the Shell film was amazing. Still is. Stand Alone Complex as a series was really well done. The new series on Netflix isn't as good but it's still pretty decent. The animation in any of the shows has always been top notch but I'll admit the latest series being all CG is kind of disappointing and that's coming from someone who likes CG. GitS has always been better hand-animated in my head. No idea why.

I watched it way back when and it just didn't do anything for me. Same with Akira. Maybe I'm just not an anime fan.
The weird part is that I thought the movie with ScarJo was ok.
Maybe I need to rewatch both.

Maybe I need to rewatch both. The film was ScarJo was pretty decent. My only problem with it was the cherry picked scenes they thought looked good from the anime but they had a tonally different context in the live action version that just felt off. Even then they did a good job on the execution of the scenes. They also changed it so that being a cyborg in live action was a rarity where in the anime it's expected that you'll be seeing them everywhere. It was... off. I definitely liked her portrayal of the Major under the circumstances of the live action film. Most of the actors were awesome, just the story wasn't what I was looking for. They tried to do something new by hitting familiar ground and it didn't quite gel for me.
