Thought I'd place a separate thread to talk about Season 2.

No problem.
I won't go into spoilers because unless people have done this thing in one shot, there's no way they got through it until at least today.
That said...
Just finished it....
Hasn't been a better 20 episodes of Star Trek in decades.
I very much hope it continues. But, even if it doesn't, every frame was a joy.

I'm doing my best to space them out......but I'll probably be done by tomorrow. It's too easy to just keep watching!

Prodigy: Why is this show so good?
Very spot-on all around, especially with comparing and contrasting Wesley here as opposed to Picard S2.
Well worth the watch.

Finished watching it last night with a big pause in the middle of the season. I couldn't quite get into it and rewatched BSG instead.
A couple of things don't quite sit right with me:
1. The 'end of the universe' threat. Picard and Discovery have played that to death. I appreciated that the first season was smaller and more personal in scope.
2. Wesley Crusher and other guests. I wanted more of our new crew but felt like these others took up too much of the narrative. I realize that Wesley/Wil is some type of fan favourite but I don't care that much about him.
Don't care two hoots about the Bev cameos. The cameos+(the Doctor for example) felt like they were doing the same thing that the other recent series are doing by tickling the nostalgia neurons. Felt cheap. Very Matalas. The doc had one too many "I'm a doctor, not a (insert punchline)".
On this topic, I think Mulgrew did a fantastic job with her voiceover acting. The other guests felt like they were reading lines.
3. The tacked on inclusion of nu-Trek into this. I enjoyed that this series is somewhat set apart from the rest since I don't care about those shows.
I'll have to rewatch it of course. I'm sure I'll have different thoughts.

Up to episode 15. I have never enjoyed binge-watching Star Trek. So I am taking it all slowly.
Spoilers Spoilers
On episode 12 there is this sequence of the Protostar gliding through gas clouds to get to a source of energy. The context, the dialogue, the utter elegance of the animation. Wow! The beauty of it all. I think that they created something unique in itself, and something uniquely Trek.
So proud of being a trekker for life.

I did 10 at a time. It's such a beautiful experience.

Just up to episode 5. Really enjoying it. The stories are strong. Most of the callbacks don't feel forced and the ones that do kinda feel like maybe they're just there, Lower Decks style, you can overlook just because there's so much honest...craft....in the rest of it.

I finished it. Wow. I don't even know where to begin, but I will give it my best shot anyway.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOILERS GALORE ahead. If you have not watched Prodigy S2 and you care about spoilers STOP right now.
As prom put it above, this season was truly a beautiful experience. I want to underscore the experience part. If you have been a trekker for the last 35 years as myself, immersing yourself in this meticulously crafted Trek art thing that is STP S2 is indeed something to be cherish and enjoy, like a good old wine you have saved for many years and then your best friend come over with the best possible news and you pop the bottle just because you want to share tears of joy with him. In 30 years if you are around and some kid ask you "what is Star Trek? what should I watch first?", you will point her curious mind to Prodigy.
There are so many things to praised about this work: the constant sense of awe on the crew of kids, the friendship as a beacon guiding the story, the whale, how IDIC informs and is constantly injecting life on the script, how precise the animation captures the sense of wonder and vividly send the viewer to the adventure, Murf speaking murfese (Darmok anyone?!!), how science (as a sort of new magic) is paramount and gods and religions are absent (well, I admit, that's my very personal reading), how the other crew members get integrated to the action and decision making (Tysess and Maj'el deserve live action appearances on future Trek), even Wesley Crusher manage to be likable!!! But I leave that to all of you to explore and discover.
I just want to point out briefly two in-universe aspects that stand out: The revitalization of Chakotay and how they approach (and solve in my humble opinion) the villain problem on Star Trek.
1. Chakotay on STVoyager was a missed opportunity. I am not stating anything new. The character was full to the brink with stereotypical notions about Native Americans and the character transition from Maquis rebel to first officer was really poor and misguided. Add to that Beltran acerbic public persona and Chakotay was sent on fan heads to Trek esoterica and some weirdo corners. BUT Chakotay idea is relevant and Star Trek should have a place for it. Prodigy inject new life to it, and we on the Trek sphere should be forever grateful for it. Setting aside Beltran theatrics on the real world, Chakotay is the paradigmatic officer whose loyalty to the captain AND to the integration of disparate factions on the ship community is very important. It echoes other instances on Trek: elements of Spock and Scotty merged on him, Jadxia and Kira share aspect of him in their willingness to put themselves on the line while being close to the captain project. Prodigy acknowledges the importance of this figure on Star Trek universe. It brings to the forth the fact the Chakotay was dealt (by writers and producers) on VOY a bad hand of cards and reimagine his possibilities with a fantastic time travel story device that place him at the center of a multiverse intrigue.
2. Trek in general and current Trek in particular (specially DSC and PIC; SNW appears to be shaking out from it, hopefully) have a villain problem. Sometimes it seems that a story is not possible to be told if there is not a malevolent entity lurking and dictating the next plot development. TOS, TNG and DS9 do not let these issues constraint them too much, there is, of course, Q and the Dominion War suggesting to the writers turns and options, but conflict and drama mostly emerged on these shows from episodic situations. Prodigy address these issues tangentially by displacing the core adversary problem to temporal shenanigans represented by Looms. It is a great narrative device (and a call back to many classic Trek time travel stories) because it makes the conflict more fluid. There is Asencia of course, but she is merely a standee (plot wise) for S1 The Diviner, she is not a villain like Tarka inserted on the plot guiding everything on it, or like the Borg an all powerful wall; she is just a conduit to let conflict flow so that the kids better tight their friendship.
This was brilliant season and of course we are tempted to say "we want more" because our Trek heart is thirsty. But if someone ask me if I want another season, I would categorically say NO. Let this little jewel shine by itself forever.
