An all right episode, but this continues to feel dragged out, even in this 45-minute segment. Everything on the ship could have beep pared down to 10-15 minutes.
T'Rina and Saru were easily the most entertaining thing in it.
And Book and Burnham stop in the middle of a high-stakes cloak and dagger mission to have an emotional beat, but, hey, at least she acknowledged what a bad time it was.

I enjoy watching this crew, they kind of grew on me, but this ep felt like a little all over the place. And the suspension of disbelieves!! Piling one after the other, it was too much, even for Star Trek that is pretty much space scifi magic. As for the Breen -they are suppose to be the dreaded military force of the quadrant- here they were like a plot afterthought, like teen soldiers with no tactical knowledge.
I love Rayner, but sadly we will only get one more episode of him. Saru / T'Rina is one of the most memorable couple on Trek, ever. This season belong to them.
One more episode. I am not tire of Discovery; most of the seasons I really disliked and just endured them. But the Trek badge grew on DSC and they were hitting some good Trek keys. Live long and prosper DSC!

I think of the Breen like the Russian army. We don't pay you to think. They win by attrition. A typical low level soldier is going to follow orders blindly. The low level soldiers don't have tactical knowledge. Plus the leader at the top isn't a Breen so they aren't as efficient.

I don't think war of attrition is a good analogy for the Breen. As I understand this type of warfare, it presupposes a mighty force that is wear down with time and occasional engagements, like guerrilla tactics. scenario provided a good example of attrition warfare. On WWII the Russians encounter a superior force and used attrition to beat them out on Stalingrad; the long Russian winter help to deplete German troops morale and resources... But see, that's not the Breen case, they have might, they are the Nazis on the WWII example. Why would the Breen use attrition tactics when they can beat you with Dreadnoughts and brute force? That's why I DSC mischaracterize the Breen soldiers as almost dumb and easy to fool (it is a plot necessity, of course). Is as if the script wants to make a sort of Terran comparison. It is a missed opportunity to go deeper into Breen culture.

It is a missed opportunity to go deeper into Breen culture. Militaristic cultures in general don't encourage free thinking in the lower ranks. The Breen leaders shown this season casually killed or sent to die lower level soldiers. It reminds me of the Russians, or Zulu, or Spartans or even British at the height of the empire.
