Watched it this weekend and I enjoyed it. The helicopter perspective is that if you enjoyed the first one then you'll enjoy the second.
Random thoughts(SPOILERS):
- I was surprised that it starts practically right off from the ending of the last. I thought at least they would skip a couple of months ahead to show a Paul about to become 'Messiah'. I suppose if they did that then it wouldn't show some of the calculated decisions Paul and his mom took to manipulate those around them to their service.
- Humour. It was welcome to a certain point. I'm not sure how I sit with basically taking Stilgar an practically turning him into the comedic relief character. To me, it took a one step over the line.
- I want intermissions if Hollywood is gonna do these 2.5 hour long movies.
- There were a couple of scenes too many of what I call the 90's cologne tough-guy-slow-mo-walking scenes. It doesn't help that Chalamet is basically a runway model.
- Speaking of, I'm still not convinced Chalamet was the right choice. He's too pretty and frail looking which I think works for the more 'rich prince' Dune pt 1 characterization but I'm not sure he translates well into guerrilla. I'm not expecting Wolverine either. I suppose the same thing could be applied to Kyle MacLachlan back then.
- I enjoy how the ending presents a somewhat satisfying conclusion while leaving the door open for at least one more movie.
- Online people are talking about how it was ballsy to include Anya Taylor Joy in an uncredited cameo for a very pivotal role but it doesn't seem anyone is mentioning Lea Seydoux who is a fantastic actress in her own right.
- I was surprised that the last shot was Channi as if she was the focus of the story. She's a huge part of course but I would have figured it would be something else.
