I've put this thread in the DIS section as it's basically a spinoff and I wouldn't know where else to put it, but is there any true progress on the Section 31 project starring Mirror Georgiou? Or is it basically the same kind of bullshit we've seen with the Kelvinverse's Trek 4, where they keep saying it's in the work but everyone seems certain it won't happen?
I mean, I love Georgiou, but just typing 'Section 31' and 'Mirror' in the same sentence kind of left a bad taste.
It might be my own biases, but it just feels like there is no traction and even less enthusiasm for that show. I guess it might just be in the Paramount+ content lineup, waiting for PIC or another show to exit...

I feel the same way. It really feel like it is losing any momentum it had (if it ever really had any).

I wasn't too keen on it either. I'm not a fan of the existence of Section 31. Hated it in DS9, hated it in ENT, hated it in STID, and i hated it in DIS.
It seems it was one of Kurtzman's bad ideas when there suddenly was a huge demand for more Pike. I'm glad Strange New Worlds won out. However I am annoyed that they dont address what happened to the rest of Pike's crew...Boyce,Tyler etc. hmmm might make that a topic in the SNW forum.

I kinda feel that Section 31 is antithetical to Trek values....but since nuTrek has somewhat chucked Trek values out the window in favour of soap opera drama then I think it would be/could be a sure thing for newer fans to latch on since 'dark' is cool.
I suppose if they changed Section 31 into just being a secret agency and not somewhat of an undermining organization then it could work. But having Mirror Giourgio in it.....hmmm....that kinda feels they would want to rely on heavy handed, aggressive/violent behaviours.

There always had to be some sort of Analog to the Obsidian Order or the Tal'Shiar within the Federation because it's just too big a defensive/offensive gap to leave. Even the Klingons used espionage and sabotage extensively.

I love Michelle Yeoh; been a fan of hers since the 1990s. However, I have zero enthusiasm for more 'darker' Trek. I accept that any organization as complex and far-reaching as the Federation would have to have a group dedicated to doing its dirty work, but I'd prefer to see it in small doses; as a seasoning to a story, not a main course. Thanks, Star Trek, but no thanks. |

Section 31 was at its most interesting when it was so obscure that even most officers within Starfleet were unaware of it, which also means it should be sprinkled very sparsely among the franchise.
A show centered on it would be cause for a lot of cynism.
