How does Snyder keep getting money to make banal movies?
Random thoughts.....'cuz I just don't have the patience to write up something nice.
- Sofia Boutella is impressive from the physicality aspect/demands of this role. Unfortunately she either doesn't have the acting chops or charisma to be a lead. She's ok but if you're the central figure you need to be more engaging, interesting? I don't know what word. As part of an ensemble she would be fine.
-Similarly, none of the 'good guys' are interesting whether it be due to characterization, poor dialog, or the lack of acting chops. The bad guy is the only engaging character and that's because he's doing a typical over the top villain. He does it well though. He's like the only live action character and the rest of the cast look like kindergarten stick figures.
-If this movie was originally pitched for Disney/Star Wars then how is it any different than Rogue One? If you're gonna practically rip off Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai then you have to present something new to the story and you have to do it better. Rogue One, already quite derivative, was at least visually nice to see. This isn't.
-"Snyder is gonna Snyder". The slo-mo, the overly buffed people(the dude without a shirt throughout the whole movie...lol), the over the top violence, etc....
- The Harry Potter Hypogriff rip off. FFS.
- 2 hour plus to tell such a minimal story. At least 30 minutes could have been removed and not affected whatever story there is.
-The robot was the most interesting character......and he's on screen for 5 minutes at most. And then at the end we have this long scene with him just standing in the fields with deer antlers on his head. WTF?!! The robot's back story was much more interesting than whatever it is we're watching.
- I am not sure how the bad guy can be revived. Not to get too gross but falling at that height should have turned him into pulp and yet he looks like he was gently sleeping on a pile of rocks brain intact.
-Asian lightsaber chic is perfunctory but I soooo wanted a twist and have spider lady join the group. I don't know how that would have worked but she was much more interesting.
That's all I can think of for now. I can't believe this is 'part 1'.
