Any Godzilla fans out there? Or fans of really GOOD movies that would totally win an Oscar for Best Foreign Film if they didn't have the name 'Godzilla' attached?  Then do yourselves a favor and go see "Godzilla Minus One"; this is not only the BEST Godzilla film ever made (yes, even the 1954 original), but it's the most WHOLLY SATISFYING movie I've seen in YEARS. Not to be missed.If you don't mind ****MASSIVE SPOILERS**** I wrote a deep dive review of it on my site: "Godzilla Minus One is a HUGE plus."

Really is a wonderful film.
It's a human movie with Godzilla in it as opposed to a Godzilla movie with humans in it.
That's a plus because, while I love Godzilla's work as an actor with a 70-year-career behind him, he isn't known for his range.

It's funny you can still refer to Godzilla as 'he'; after watching (and reviewing) this movie, I found myself referring to Godzilla as 'it' for this movie. For this movie (easily my favorite of the G-canon to date), Godzilla felt much more like a terrifying force of nature than a character. |

It's funny you can still refer to Godzilla as 'he'; after watching (and reviewing) this movie, I found myself referring to Godzilla as 'it' for this movie. For this movie (easily my favorite of the G-canon to date), Godzilla felt much more like a terrifying force of nature than a character. I think because wanton destruction is almost a uniquely male thing. lol |

Great review on your site. You concisely captured what makes this film worth going back to the movies. I was in Sydney today doing some shopping and had a bit of time - but couldn’t find a film to see (unless I went in to re watch something). IMAX has just reopened after 12 years of reconstruction (the Sydney Opera House took about that long!) and would have ducked in to see G-1 again had it been on. |
