A fascinating read which has resonance with a lot of great old UK shows that are locked in lower resolution because of production techniques that are locked in time. I really admire the ingenuity of technicians who are continually able to find algorithmic ways to reinvigorate older programs. I have another solution that works for me and cost be fifty dollars. I bought a CRT monitor which is my platform for such shows. Faulty Towers looks not great on my big HD screen but looks pristine on the CRT.

I wonder if there will be a resurgence in the market for good CRTs just for this purpose in the same way that vinyl went from vanished and obsolete to a profitable niche market.

Great write up! I am optimistic that one day some kind of crowdsource campaign will bring DS9 the treatment it deserves.

Great write up! I am optimistic that one day some kind of crowdsource campaign will bring DS9 the treatment it deserves. Alas, it will never get the painstaking restoration that TNG got, but I dare hope that digital upscaling will get good enough and cheap enough that Paramount will spring for it.

4K Upscale sample on Youtube:
Honestly, this looks very not bad and I'd be happy with it, especially when the alternative is "nothing."

I approved! Much sharper... I watched the whole scene with delight. Seeing these two great actors interact is always such a joy.

Wow, that was superbly well done. Maybe if I meditate Man in the High Castle style I can slip over to the dimension where is is real and watch a few.

I'm hoping as certain remastering techniques get cheaper that they'll eventually remaster Ds9 and Voyager. I would hope CGI would too. Especially with talents like JFX (See the best of both worlds vid he did that I posted in the...TNG forum I think). It could be done. Just when the money is there above the cost.

If AI is the answer to remastering, and it saves the time/expense etc of hunting for old film elements, etc. then yeah, sure, I'm all for it. And yes, if DS9 were remastered into BluRay, I would buy the series as a box set, no questions asked.
