I finally got around to buying the BluRay today, and watched it this afternoon. Holy smokes, that was good. Fresh, dazzling and funny as hell in a wildly random, offbeat way.
This is what I wrote right after seeing it (texting a friend):
I saw “Everything Everywhere All At Once” today; it’s absolutely amazing. Easily Best Picture and a Best Oscar for Michelle Yeoh as well. Phenomenal movie.
Despite a seemingly complicated premise, at its core lies a simple (and very moving) generational family story.
If you haven’t seen it, just see it; my mind is too blown to think right now…🤪🤯
I'm in the process of writing a real review on my site and I hope to have it out by tomorrow afternoon-ish (?).

I absolutely loved it.
This was the first time in a long while where I felt that this was why I went to a theater to have that theatrical experience.

Definitely one of the best movies of 2022. Not only was it a hell of a lot of fun, it had a hell of lot of depth!

Eeehhh.....Debi Downer here. I thought it was ok but I can't see the fuss about it being Oscar material and whatnot. I think it could have benefitted from being anywhere from 45 - 60 minutes shorter.
It was nice to see Ke Huy Quan again after so many years. And it's always a treat to see elder statesman James Hong.
The one scene that my wife and I related to was unfortunately one we had seen already. It's early on when the daughter corrects the mom about pronouns and the mom says that in Mandarin it's the same pronoun 'ta'. This is a daily struggle at home with my wife who is born and raised Chinese. I never know who she's talking about because she'll switch pronouns in the same sentence referring to the same person. For some reason I thought I'd see more of that generational gap in this movie.
Also, I had heard this movie referred to as a superhero movie and I saw nothing like that at all. Of course, one can make the case for it but I saw a different movie altogether. I sort of wished that all the scifi elements were removed and I think there would have still been a good mother/daughter cross generational immigrant story there. I felt that the 'Matrix skill/multiverse jumping' to be a distraction.
Regardless I'm happy for the cast and crew. Michelle Yeoh has always been fantastic and I hope that this leads to more parts for her. She's a solid actress and doesn't necessarily have to rely on martial arts chops to be in a movie. Of course, it is always fun to see her kicking away.

Yeah, I have no idea where that "superhero movie" nonsense started about it.

What a remarkable movie! We saw it the other day and I was stunned, it is still lurking inside me.There is hope for movie making and is not on the superhero genre. I think they paste the hero label on it to favor the market forces that are currently reigning, but at heart the movie have nothing to do with it. I like weird. I think we are closer to greatness when art aims to give us a picture of the darker, twisted, odd, strange, bizarre corners of the human soul, because, lets face it, we are a bunch of weirdos, a truly uncanny species. This film falls squarely on the surrealist camp used to frame the story of a mother and a daughter. The premise is simple: there are multiple versions of your story BUT you better do your best so that the ONE your living is guided by love. The humor is so meta that you need to keep thinking about it to pulled together the pieces.
Everything is streaming nowadays, so the old discipline of keeping things solid (Bluray) is almost lost; not this one, I am buying and keeping this one.

My goodness!!! The movie killed at the Oscars.

Aaaaaand Michelle Yeoh wins Best Actress.. And this effectively places her out of reached (salary wise) of Paramount to include her on a Section 31 spin-off... Great for her and for what it symbolizes for minorities representation.

Great for her and for what it symbolizes for minorities representation. It's up to her at this point. I can't imagine why she would really want to still do the show after this, for she is now an even hotter property than before. But, if she still wants to do it for some reason, this show will happen, especially after tonight. There's almost no chance of that though.

I said this same thing a couple of weeks ago on The Trek BBS and got laughed at. They seemed not to understand how real life works. Any professional is going to aspire for the next higher grade job; not a sideways move. Especially after being recognized in their profession with the highest award. At best she may be a guest star here and there. If they're lucky.
