I don't even have the energy to try to come up with so many things wrong with it except to say it's true to form for what DCU(or whatever that cinematic franchise is called). Very much paint by numbers generic superhero movie.
Two things that jump out in the awful category:
1. The cliché/stereotypical Latino family. Just ugh....
2. The Scarab AI: in this movie the alien AI plays rather like a Tony Stark creation. I can't say I'm very familiar with the character but in the animated Young Justice the AI seems more sentient with the directives of its creators. Jaime and the Scarab take a long while to come to agreements about how to operate together. The AI is basically another character. But in the movie it feels like nothing more than an operating system.
It really felt like rip off from Spider-Man and Iron Man. A cheap knock off.

This is basically what I've heard: that the family, as cliched stereotype as they are, are more entertaining any of the hero stuff, which is a problem. And that Gunn has said publicly that this is an official part of the DC reboot, that doesn't bode well at all for me.

Yeah....there was a lot of attention on the family sort of trying to capitalize on the Shazam dynamics. And this was quite cartoonish. I can only hope that Gunn is saying that Blue Beetle, the character, will be part of the DC reboot but not necessarily this version. There isn't anything in this movie worth continuing.
