I really like it. It grew on me, the characters grew on me.
They definitely nail the angle of "Trek for kids" and build an engaging story with a Trek heart but around a sort of teen bunch camaraderie. It worked.
Is not my sort of thing, though. Maybe I am biased and find it hard to accept the premise of teen Starfleet officers; maybe I just prefer my Trek to be adult-oriented. I don't know, the overall arch of the season seems like too far-fetched... But that's just me. The show stands by itself and I enjoy it thoroughly.
SPOILER SPOILER I have one minor problem with the story as told. It seems illogical that after it was revealed that Holo Janeway was a sort of dormant agent of the Diviner agenda, after she used Dal command codes to take control of the Protostar and thus imperil Starfleet existence, how can she remains active? She is obviously compromise. How can she remain part of the crew to the point of being entrust with the ultimate destruction of the Living Construct? How can they be sure that the same "secret subroutine" wont take over Holo Janeway again? At one point, Dal wave's the problem away with a "we'll deal with Janeway later", but that of course not enough.

Hey, GarakNephew!! Nice to 'see' you here. I have my own review of PRO here someplace... Star Trek Prodigy is the franchise's most unexpected surprise...
