I mean, the whole episode did play like a cheap romance novel. Y’all know the ones, softcovers you find at the grocery store. In that regard, it is kind of a guilty pleasure. (Sorry, didn't mean to bump my posts.) I work in a Library. I have to shelve, check-in, and Check-out those damned things all the time. Harlequin is the worst. Its all about Cowboy Baby-Daddies. Come to think of it...isn't that what TNG was going for with Beverly, Wesley and Picard? Oh God!!!! If you want to cover all your basis, Write a story about a Werewolf Pregnant Princess falling in love with a Vampire Peasant Cowboy on an Amish farm in a post apocalyptic world during a Zombie apocalypse...on a space station... I’d be tempted to try and write that future classic… After many, many beers. Semi-related, but I got a buddy who does voice acting, and he recently found a niche recording the audiobook versions of these types of novels.

Just google Chuck Tingle and his novels. They make "Sub Rosa"'s plot look like the most logical thing to ever happen.

I google Chuck Tingle. My search history is forever soiled! 😆 "Sub Rosa" remains undefeated as one of the worse hour of television. Its place on Trek Hall of Shame is undisputed and yet if you watch it as comedy some enjoyment might be gained.

Yeah I can appreciate that approach. It's why I'm such a fan of TNG's first season. The unintended hilariousness and ridiculousness. And they DID go back to that on some occasions in the later seasons. It's just that sometimes it turned out to be awesome (like in "Masks") and sometimes it really feels just bad (like in "Sub Rosa").

There are favorites that are in that season. For some reason I absolutely love "Arsenal of Freedom". It feels very sci-fi-ish to me. Also SAUCER SEPERATION!!!! Also, Commander Sinclair's girlfriend is at the helm. Another favorite from the season is "Conspiracy". WOW, I really wish that was followed up on. Also Seasons 1, 2, and 3 had better music, more grand music. Then Dumb@$$ Berman had them tone it down because he said it was "Distracting" from the show. I'm like F**K YOU BERMAN, Music can make or break a show, especially the lack of it. Another episode I hate, is "Man of the People" season 6. Another Troi suffers episode. I swear they love to make Troi suffer. Speaking of which I do not know how the hell that 80% transparent gown made it past the TV censors. Not that my teenage self minded but HOW THE HELL DID THAT GET PAST CENSORS? Riker walks up to her quarters, rings the door chime and the door opens and OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, find more ways to make people hate Troi, lets make her mean because for some reason aging makes you a royal B**** for some reason? Like WTF?

Minor point regarding the episode: The paranoia and anger was also part of having his own negativity dumped into them. It wasn't the fact that they were aging in and of itself.

Makes a little bit more sense....but still trying to wrap negativity and aging together though. IDK, I'm going to have to rewatch it, but I feel the technobabble didn't make any of its usual fictional sense. I often wondered if Marina ever got tired of playing a suffering Troi all the Time. Encounter at Farpoint, Night Terrors, The Child, Man of the People, Violations, The Loss, The Survivors, Clues, Star Trek Nemesis.....I mean COME ON!!!

At least in Violations it wasn't just her for once.

I do seem to recall that Marina Sirtis was mostly unhappy with Troi getting those horrible storylines where some Creep Of The Week was after her (I definitely remember that she hated that scene in Nemesis where it happened all over AGAIN). I can't blame her.

I can't blame her. Yeah, its one of the main reasons I hated Nemesis. I'm like AGAIN, REALLY?...I think I blurted that out in the theatre. Also, its disturbing how many male moviemakers are obsessed with filming rape scenes. I got another worst episode: Best of Both Worlds. I mean its so cringe, ships that are shaped like cubes how ridiculous!!! - (I'm Just Kidding , no one kill me!!!) "The First Duty" I feel like it pretty much assassinated Wesley's character, and all the progress he made undone. Any character development they had got shot right our of a Russian window. Wesley was a very mishandles character. They made him annoying then any positives he had got destroyed in that single episode. I was hoping for him to evolve into a less and less annoying character over time and achieve something. Nope they had to knock his character down. Upside: we did get the most epic speech from Picard...so...yay?

I get what you're saying, but it makes sense to me that Wes, a kid who was taught his entire life that he's this once in a generation intellect and can do no wrong, and all the pressure with that, getting wrapped up in this. "Journey's End" is way worse for his character to me. And, we add the worse of this idea that the Cardassians will just leave them alone.

I agree about "Journey's End" being far worse. They spend almost the entire show making Wesley into a future Starfleet officer and then he goes off with the Traveler in his windowless van. They could have waited with this until he'd spend some time as an officer, which was what he worked towards all his life.
I also agree that there had to be a "rebel phase" for Wesley. That he had to learn that even he, wunderkind extraordinaire, makes mistakes.

I really hate season 2 of Picard retconning that. That pissed me off so much. I always imagined Wesley being Riker's Helmsman on the Titan. -And now that you mention it, I have to agree with out all. Future's end is far worse. And lets face it, we all know that colony had to be wiped out during the Dominion war along with the Maquis colonies.

The PIC writers either retconned or ignored pretty much everything that didn't go along with their show's plot, so I'd say "welcome to the retconning club, Wesley". On the other hand, his unexplained presence in a Starfleet uniform in Nemesis already made very little sense and was super random, so it's not that they ruined everything. They just retconned a retcon. And made it even worse. lol
