Paramount is having some serious financial troubles unfortunately. I can see one of the other big companies swooping in another year or two and snatching it up at bargain prices. They've basically put themselves on life support for the next two years unless they can turn things around. All I can say is that "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" had better make an aircraft carrier-full of money for them...
Dial of Destiny is being distributed by Disney. Paramount isn't seeing a cent of it.

Paramount isn't seeing a cent of it. You're right. They retain distribution rights to the first 4 and they're getting a residual credit for Dial. I don't know if that credit includes any money, but you're right, Disney owns Dial whole.

I wonder then, how Dial will open? Not with the famous fade from the Paramount mountain to a similar geographical silhouette, like the first four movies do, but perhaps from the Disney castle to something similar...?

She really didn't. The whole way this show has been yanked from P+ and the way they treated the makers of it is shameful.

I'm sad to hear the news but maybe not too shocked. Streaming isn't the cash cow that all these companies thought it was.
As for why Prodigy seems to be targeted, all I can say is that P+ seems to be targeting Star Trek to the 20-30 something demographic. This doesn't seem to be a crowd that grew up with Star Trek but rather something more soap operaish like the CW content. So that type of melodramatic storytelling and acting is the norm. "Admiral Eff Bomb" doesn't raise an eyebrow at all to them but for anyone who grew up with 90's Trek and prior our eyebrows have completely blown off our faces. Star Trek is not a family show anymore as it once was.
Also, and I'm thinking this is a big factor, this is a social media native generation. They post everything on social media. It's the only reason that I can see how the shows that have made it despite quality issues gets. So P+ sees constant mention of these shows. Prodigy, aimed at families, doesn't have this effect. Kids are too young to be on social platforms and parents are too busy and/or older to care about tweeting every microsecond of their lives.
It would seem to me that if Paramount wanted to slash costs then they would cut live-action shows. There is a lot of money needed for that type of show compared to animation.
Anyhoo....it sucks. Big time.
And since we have somewhat of a sub-thread happening with the new Indy movie, it seems like that didn't open as well as expected. But that doesn't seem to be of relevance to Paramount at this point.

Part of the issue with the 'box office bombs' lately is that they're still relying on the tentpole model which has gone out the window with streaming and the pandemic. People got used to watching these films in their homes and not having to drop $50 plus at the theater to see it. A lot of people are hurting for money and why go to the theater to see it when you can wait 6 months or less and it'll be streaming?
Only real reason I went to see Avatar 2 in theaters was to see it in 3D since I don't have that at home and I knew it'd look great.

Universal drops their films on Peacock in 45-60 days...with almost no one doing 4-6 months anymore...there's less reason to make the effort. Add in ticket cost + the fact that Hell is other people in a theater + the fact that very few films can offer me an experience so much better at a theater that I MUST see it there and that equals box office, again ,down year over year so far.

Add in ticket cost + the fact that Hell is other people in a theater + the fact that very few films can offer me an experience so much better at a theater that I MUST dee it there and that equals box office, again ,down year over year so far. Yeah....that's been me since I became a parent. It gets to be quite difficult to leave home so the movie has to be something that I'm really interested in and/or good quality for me to see it in a theater. I almost walked out of The Last Airbender. I just couldn't see me spending more time watching that crap with 2 babies at home. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing though. Perhaps we're moving to a time in which there are certain movies that are "theater level" experiences like Star Wars was back in the 70's. Something like Heat, a fantastic movie, isn't something I would go watch in a theater anymore....especially considering how long it was. The flipside is missing out on a movie that I should have seen in the theater. Dune and Top Gun Maverick comes to mind. Then there are the '50/50' movies like are movies like The Flash and the latest Indiana Jones. Movies I understand aren't that good but generally are theater level movies, at least the latter.

There are certain things you can legitimately make the argument where size = immersion = better experience with the film. Avatar, for instance. Heat? A Few Good Men? IMAX isn't going to take that to any other level.

F*CK PARAD!CK!!! and VIAC*CK!!! And CBullS**t!!!Now this has me worried about Strange New Worlds. ....ALSO HOW THE HECK DOES THIS GET CANCELED BUT NOT LOWER FREAKIN DECKS? WTF? SERIOUSLY W. T. F. ? Prodigy was actually decent. Paramount and WB are both drowning in their own vomit at this point. They are making so many bad decisions.
Just so they know, the moment SNW gets cancelled, so does my P+ subscription. The only reason I have P+ is to support SNW. And I buy the DVDs too (Season 1 of SNW was actually the first Kurtztrek I bought for full price new)

Lower Decks has an audience which loves it. Why, I don't know but they do.
I wonder if this is connected to the strike. They're going to run out of fresh material in a few months. Maybe they'll bring it back once everything is a repeat.

I think I mentioned elsewhere before that LD does have it's audience and P+ and whoever else is in charge is aiming for some sort of young adult demographic(not Young Adult as in literary works since that's really teens) which I'm guessing is somewhat in the mid-20's to mid-30's. Basically pre-parent adults. LD comes after, what?, a decade of Adult Swim? Someone please correct me since I don't watch anything in that block of shows.
Prodigy was more family aimed, and that's sadly a demographic that hasn't worked for quite a while now. I can't think of any shows that are in that family friendly zone besides probably religious stuff.
What I don't think P+ knew or cared is that Prodigy did capture ST's spirit quite well. But who cares about that, right? It's all about ratings and buzz and whatever.

I like The Bad Batch. It's a good show. What's about Star Wars The Clone wars s01-s07? As I've said many times before (although perhaps on our previous board), I'm a big fan of all animated Star Wars, except for Resistance, which I felt really dropped the ball. However, we are here to celebrate the continuation of Star Trek: Prodigy, not animated Star Wars!

Good news. If it can do as well or better in S2, decent odds it'll continue and I'd very much like it to.
