I'm not much into all the back story about this(whether he meddled with script, the process, etc...) but at least he did try. I just think WB never understood what to do with DC, didn't have someone in charge who understood the characters, etc... That's the bigger issue. Not him.
All they had was Snyder who thought 'dark' was good.
I think trying to present Black Adam as some type of anti-hero instead of the villain was a mistake. I understand that's on him....but that's like the least of mistakes in this movie.

That said, Pierce Brosnan had the best bits and I'd go see him in a Dr. Fate movie tomorrow. The film still has shades of Snyder all over it. I think there's some part of this film's lack of success to be found in maybe some of the star has faded from Johnson. He's never really been a lead. His greatest successes are as part of an ensemble or opposite much stronger actors that can carry him. He has no range to speak of to the point where he feels like he's the same guy in every film. Maybe people are starting to get tired of the one note on top of everything else that conspired to flatten this film.

Totally agreed on Brosnan's Dr. Fate. Easily the best character in the movie. And yes....I've never thought Johnson had good acting chops. He's charismatic as hell as a person but somehow that doesn't translate to his movie career. Then I think of someone from a similar background like Dave Batista. Batista easily out acts Johnson which is weird given Batista's relative inexperience and he's smart about his roles. He knows he's not lead material. At least not yet.

I think Bautista succeeds because he's hungry for it. He has natural talent, but he wants to keep stretching, learning, and doing more things as an actor. He doesn't limit himself to action films and doesn't necessarily want to keep doing them. Whereas Johnson has honed "The Rock" down to a fine point and rode that to a lucrative career. I think maybe he's seeing that he wants more. He wants different roles and he wants some say in what projects get to the screen, he's finding that whole "The Rock" thing just doesn't work like it used to.
